Timur Tokdemir aka Mechatok hails from Munich but now calls Berlin his home. With his debut ‘See Thru’ EP the young producer exhibited a rare gift of honing a distinct and unique style at quite a young age.

For this five-track release Mechatok created his own abstract and minimal take on pop, combining elements of ambient, stripped-down yet addictive hooks and mind-bending textures. The title song was accompanied by a magical video shot by Benjy Keating on the stairs of Athens’ Panathenaic Stadium. Mechatok also attracted attention thanks to the single ‘Still Life’ (co-produced by Toxe) which scored the Kenzo FW 2016 prints presentation.

The allure of Mechatok’s music can be partly traced back to the fact that he’s a classically trained instrumentalist. In his DJ sets Mechatok juggles club music, melodic pieces and rap, conveying feels from vulnerability to bliss. In his recent mixes for Dazed and Mixmag Mechatok tells stories of melancholy, which also radiate with uplifting energy.

Much more than just a club kid, Mechatok has also shown his face as a top-notch pop producer. Hear that for yourself in his instrumental for ‘Schemin’ featuring Uli K and Yung Lean, or ‘Fix Up’ and ‘Cold’ by Uli K, both fueled by Mechatok’s productions. Mechatok is currently working on a new solo project that’s set to be released on Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? Records by the end of the year and is involved in further collaborations.

Having toured South America and made an appearance at the Boiler Room Weekender in 2016, he recently played Panorama Bar at Berlin’s CTM Festival, Prague’s MeetFactory and Milan’s WeRiddim. Mechatok is confirmed for Wiener Festwochen’s new Hyperreality Festival and Denmark’s Roskilde. More appearances are waiting to be announced.
